Short how-tos for using PLOT
Everything here matches the app as it works today. If something still doesn't make sense once you've tried it, email [email protected] and tell us what you were trying to do.
Find your place
After you sign in, use the "Where's your place?" box to type your address or your nearest town. If it's a rural lot with no street number, start with the nearest named road and drag the map the rest of the way once you're close. The editor opens over your property on satellite imagery.
Mark your boundary
Open the Add tab and choose Property boundary. Click each corner of your block, then double-click the last corner (or press Enter) to finish. Once it's finished the boundary locks itself so you don't nudge it by accident; use "Edit boundary" if you need to change it.
Add and size a shed
Open the Add tab, search or browse for Shed (or another structure), and click where it goes. Select it under On this plan and use the Length × Width fields in the item editor to set its exact size, or drag a corner to resize it by eye. The area shows next to it as you go.
Draw a fence
Open the Add tab and choose Fence. Click each point along the line, then double-click the last point (or press Enter) to finish. The length shows as you draw. You can rename or recolour any fence line from On this plan to tell different runs apart.
Measure a distance
Open Measure in the toolbar, then click two or more points on the map. The distance (or the area, if you close the shape) shows as "Distance" or "Area inside". Press Done, or Esc, to put the ruler away.
Drop a pin
Open On this plan and find the Pins section to drop a pin at the spot you're looking at, add a photo, and jump straight back to it later. Handy for marking a dam wall, a fence repair, or a new shed slab.
Change the map style
Use the Map style menu in the toolbar to switch between Satellite, Satellite + roads and Street map, and to turn on Government maps such as property boundaries, flood and bushfire layers where they're available for your area.
Sun & shade
Open Sun & shade in the toolbar to see where the sun sits through the year over your property, so you can check whether a shed or tree line will shade the spot you're planning for.
Share your plan
Send a view-only link to anyone: they open it straight in their browser, no account needed. To have someone edit alongside you, use Invite by email instead - a Pro feature and up; whether they land on Can view or Can edit depends on their own PLOT subscription. You can turn a link off, or remove someone's access, at any time.
Replay the editor tips
Click the Tips button, next to the "?" in the editor sidebar, to walk through the short first-time tour again, any time you like.
